KHARKIV, UKRAINE (RELEASED ON JUNE 14, 2025) (USERS MUST CREDIT “RUSSIAN MINISTRY OF DEFENSE” HAND OUT – FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY – DO NOT OBSCURE LOGO) The Russian Ministry of Defense issued a series of battlefield claims from the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, announcing the capture of a new settlement and the deployment of heavy artillery systems.

On Wednesday, the ministry released video footage purportedly showing its forces utilizing 2S7 "Pion" self-propelled artillery systems in the Kharkiv region.

The ministry stated that crews from the "Zapad" Group of Forces "eliminated temporary deployment areas and manpower of the AFU (Armed Forces of Ukraine)." The 2S7 Pion is a Soviet-era heavy artillery piece known for firing large 203mm shells designed for long-range destruction of fortified positions.

According to a statement, units of the Russian "Sever" group of forces have taken control of the village of Komarivka in Ukraine's Sumy region. "As a result of active and decisive actions, units of the Sever group of forces liberated the village of Komarivka," the ministry said.

These claims follow a Russian Defense Ministry report on Tuesday alleging a "massive overnight strike on energy sites of Ukraine’s military-industrial sector." Moscow described the strikes as a retaliatory measure for what it said were Ukrainian attacks on Russian civilian infrastructure.
