Incredible footage from China of a huge sinkhole opening up in the middle of a street and a scooter rider driving straight into it.

The security camera footage, which was captured in Beihai, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region on August 17, shows the tarmac give way opening up an enormous sinkhole.

The rider fails to notice the 15-metre-long hole and rides straight into it.

Fortunately, the rider of the scooter escaped with only minor injuries.

A burst water main was to blame for the collapse of the road surface, according to local media.

In the CCTV video, captured in Beihai, Guang xi Zhuang Autonomous Region on August 17, a 15-metre-long,10-metre-wide and three-metre-deep sinkhole appears after the road suddenly collapses and a scooter drives into it as the driver cannot brake in time.

The water pipe underneath of the road broke causing the collapse.

Fortunately, the scooter driver only had skin trauma.
