Patients awaiting treatment lie on beds in the corridor as a hospital struggled with rising COVID-19 infections in eastern China.

The video was filmed at People's Hospital in Shanghai on January 5.

Patients were seen resting on beds and stretchers in the hospital’s corridor and a long queue of people waiting for assistance had formed.

According to a doctor in the hospital, there were around 400 visits to the emergency departs daily and most patients were infected with COVID-19.

The People's Hospital of Putuo District has set up a team of medical treatment experts to strengthen the pair of experts to visit and consult patients, regardless of internal and surgical treatment, to ensure that all patients can be received.

普陀区人民医院急诊科一名医生介绍，普陀区人民医院的常规急诊量一天约18辆120救护车，而这几天，每天急诊的接诊量一个上午就要20辆救护车。“现在救护车都是一辆接着一辆，几乎无缝衔接，有时还会两三辆车叠加。”而整个急诊科每天的急诊量在400人次左右，“这些急救患者中，危重症就占到30%，且大部分都是60岁以上的老年群体，且阳性患者居多。”
患者增多，住院床位紧张，收住入院困难，常常在急诊造成“压床”。普陀区人民医院成立了医院救治专家组，加强专家结对巡诊及会诊，收治病人不分内外科，确保应收尽收。医疗业务科阵地前移，协调急诊与住院部，对就诊情况和床位情况进行24小时统筹分配，每天分流30-50人次急诊积压患者收治入院，缓解急诊患者积压问题。
