An SUV travelling in the wrong direction on a highway triggered a serious accident in northern China.

Dashcam video filmed in Wugong County in Shaanxi Province on April 17, shows a motorist named Diao quickly changing his lane to avoid an SUV driving in the wrong direction on the Xi'an-Baoji Expressway.

However, just a few minutes later, a white car was hit head-on by the same SUV and suffered severe damage, resulting in a serious accident.

The SUV was seen laying upside-down on the road and a white car lay sideways on the third lane with significant damage.

According to eyewitnesses, the white car was driving normally when it was hit by the SUV driving in the wrong direction. The drivers in the cars were injured.

The incident is still under investigation by the Xianyang Highway Police and a full report will be released once the investigation is complete.

The video was provided by local media with permission.
