Elderly square dancers clash with young skateboarders over public space in Beijing
A group of young skateboarders clashed with elderly dancers in a public square in Beijing's Xicheng district, China.
The altercation occurred when the dancers, commonly referred to as "square aunties," arrived at the square and believed the young people were occupying their space.
The elderly dancers demanded that the skateboarders leave, but the young people refused, leading to a heated argument. One of the dancers then proceeded to kick a skateboard, which was followed by her kicking over a water cup worth 200 yuan and asking, "Why do you always cause trouble?”
The young people confronted the dancers, demanding compensation for the broken water cup and the damaged skateboard. One of the dancers immediately fell to the ground, claiming she was feeling unwell and had a "heart attack." The situation was eventually resolved when the police arrived on the scene, and the two sides apologized to each other.
However, the elderly dancers did not compensate the young people for the damage caused to their belongings. This incident highlights the growing tensions between young people and elderly dancers, who often argue over the use of public spaces.
The video was filmed on April 21 and provided with permission from local media.
