Footage of Lib Dem leader and local MP Tim Farron visiting Graseme, Cumbria today following recent flooding - to appeal for visitors to come to the picturesque village.

Speaking to camera, Farron says the village is still "open for business" despite the main A591 road north towards Keswick remaining closed.

He describes it as "even more tranquil than normal" as a result of the lack of traffic through, though an unfortunately timed truck interrupts his description.

The local economy has been hit by the road closure, with it not due to be re-opened until May 2016, but Farron suggests the village as a getaway destination for visitors from the south.

This morning Tim Farron visited the picturesque village of Grasmere and made this appeal.

The key North South route in the Lake District, the A591 and the main road between Grasmere and Keswick has been cut in two just North of Grasmere on Dunmail Raise. The road is now being repaired by Highways England after the Transport Secretary took responsibility for the project on behalf of Cumbria County Council.

The repair is not due to be completed until May 2016 & it is estimated that this closure may have a negative impact of £100 Million on the local tourism based economy. Grasmere & Keswick in particular are quiet as passing trade has dried up.
