The A591 will re-open on the morning of the 11th May and traffic will be able to drive along it between Grasmere and Keswick in the Lake District.

In December of 2015 Storm Desmond washed away a huge section of the road and since then motorists have had to divert via Ullswater and Kirsktone Pass or the M6 to reach Keswick from South Lakes.

The cost to businesses of the road being closed was estimated at around £1M per day.

The film shows the final touches being made to the road, and a speeded up short trip down the length of the new section.
