This is the harrowing moment a disabled man was finally rescued after allegedly being held prisoner in his mother's house for 30 years.

The unnamed man is believed to have been injured in a car accident and left without the use of his legs when he was just 10-years-old.

His mother reportedly kept him locked in the grotty three-story house, visiting him each morning and leaving food outside the door for him to reach through and grab.

She managed to keep his existence a secret for three decades as neighbours were too afraid to intervene – and rumors even spread that the mystery person inside was a ghost.

But last weekend, a visitor to the area heard noises from inside and was terrified after seeing the man’s hand reaching out of the door. She called the police who arrived on Saturday afternoon with paramedics and social workers.

The terrified man has now been taken to hospital for health checks while officers investigate the woman at the house on suspicion of cruelty and wrongful imprisonment.

Police Colonel Supol Kamchai, the director of Chokchai police department, said he did not yet believe that the woman in the house was truly his mother.

He said: ''Since we do not know the name of the patient, we have to find more evidence to prove that they are related.

''So far, we believe that this is wrongful confinement and she can be prosecuted even if she is his lawful mother.''
