Disabled man describes life in a Cape Town shanty settlement
Ashley Cornelius, a disabled resident of the Blikkiesdorp informal settlement outside Cape describes what life is life in one Cape Town's largest informal settlements or shanty towns. Blikkiesdorp was built as a temporary relocation facility in 2007 after the courts ordered the City of Cape Town to provide homeless people on the City's housing waiting list with a place to stay.
Cornelius described the living conditions of the informal settlement. He has been living in the camp for 11 years and became disabled after being the victim of a violent attack.
