Footage has emerged farmers taking on swarms of locusts in northern China, where nearly a thousand acres of corn fields have been destroyed.

The video, filmed in Anqiu county in northern Shandong Province on September 7, shows locusts filling the sky above the crops.

Men can be seen attempting to catch the insects with nets.

According to local reports, drones were deployed to "fight" the locusts and the situation is now nearly under control.

Local media said 825-acres of crops were affected.
