A homeowner in South Africa was surprised to find a large monitor lizard taking a shower in the garden sprinkler on Saturday.

The reptile appeared to be having a drink and also cooling off in the water.

"The first time I've ever seen this," the filmer wrote online.

Worldwide there are 79 different species of monitor lizard.

They appear to be relatively intelligent. Studies feeding one species varying numbers of snails showed that they can distinguish numbers up to six.

I found this Monitor Lizzard enjoying the cold water coming out of this sprinkler in the garden on a hot summers day. It seems like he is trying to either drink the water, and also use it to cool down his body. The first time ever for me to see this.
