A homeowner discovered a monitor lizard was behind an eerie scratching noise coming from their ceiling.

Footage filmed at Ikhwan Hakim's house, in Bantul district, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY) province in Indonesia, Wednesday (October 6).

"We heard a sound like a cat scratching the ceiling, making a loud noise every night. Out of curiosity, I installed CCTV and saw the monitor lizard passing in front of the camera," said Ikhwan.

According to Ikhwan, the adult's human thigh size monitor lizard is thought to have come from a garden or river behind his house.

House owners called the D.I.Y Search and Rescue (SAR) team to help evacuate the monitor lizards.

"The SAR team went up to the ceiling to catch him, but failed because the monitor lizard came out of an unguarded hole where it entered," Bondan Supriyanto, head of the operational section of the D.I.Y SAR Team said.
