A praying mantis goes about cleaning its eyes while on a bench at a rest spot in Kruger National Park in South Africa.

Explains the filmer: "This video was recorded in Mopani rest camp in the Kruger National Park. While enjoying lunch at the rest camp we suddenly noticed a large insect landing on the bench we were sitting on.

"The body of the insect resembled the shape and colours of a leaf and the insect was even swaying like a leaf in the wind. These insects are masters of camouflage, mimicking their environment to escape detection while hunting or hiding from predators.

"This insect is known as the praying mantis, named so because of the poised position in which it holds its front legs. The close-up footage shows how this beautiful and very fascinating insect goes about cleaning his own two enormous compound eyes.

"He uses his front legs to take tiny bits of fluids from his mouth, which it then uses to rub over the eyes and the back of its head. Shining and cleaning those big eyes is crucial to the survival of the praying mantis. Both these big eyes facilitate the detection of prey and the gauging of distance to attack successfully.

"This praying mantis seemed to be doing a thorough job in cleaning his big eyes, getting ready to go hunting for insects again."
