Fastest Animals Alive?

In the evening after a thunderstorm had hit Indianapolis, my friends and I had gone outside. That is when we noticed that the ground in the back yard seemed to be moving.

We walked into the yard and noticed things that seems to zip by around our feet. So we got our camera phone out and turned on the phone's light to see what was surrounding us.

When we looked, we saw earthworms darting back into the earth as we approached or when the light was on them. None of us had ever seen worms move so quickly. It was a speed that we did not think common earthworms we capable of possessing.

In the video, you will see thing moving quickly near the plants and ground cover all around as we move through the yard. I did manage to get some close ups of them rushing back underground. It was fascinating to watch this natural phenomenon and reaction to a human's presence, but it did make me squirm a little.
