Beautiful Australian Black Swans in love!

Buy video

The beautiful Black Swan (Cygnus atratus) is the only Swan native to Australia and is mostly found in the southeast and southwest of the continent. Black Swans are monogamous and usually breed in permanent, well-vegetated wetlands. This pair of Black Swans began their beautiful courtship dance by arching their long necks and plunging them under and over their mate’s body in the lake while blowing bubbles through their nostrils when their heads were under water. The tender display lasted about a minute before mating occurred. The pair then separated, stretched their long necks and honked. The pair then swam together, preening. This beautiful drama played out on Herdsman Lake in metropolitan Perth in Western Australia. I did not record sound because there was a noisy garbage truck nearby.
