Thousands of people of Indian descent celebrate the tradition of serak gulo on Tuesday 5 February 2019 in front of Muhammadan Mosque, Jalan Batipuah, Padang Selatan District, Padang City.

Not only people of Indian descent, the ethnic Chinese and Minang also celebrated the hoarse gulo tradition.

Chairman of the Muhammadan Padang Family Association, Ali Khan Abubakar said that the tradition only exists in three countries in the world.

"This raso gulo tradition only exists in three countries, namely Padang, Singapore and India," he said.

He said that the tradition was carried out once a year, namely on the 1st of Jummadil End in the hijriah year.

"This activity is carried out every three months before Ramadan and we always do it every year," he continued.

In the year 1440 Hijriyah or 2019 in the year AD it scattered as many as eight tons of granulated sugar wrapped in patchwork.

"The amount of sugar scattered is a contribution from Indian descendants in the city of Padang," he continued.

He hopes that in the future this tradition will not be lost to the times which further erodes some of the cultures in Indonesia.
