A Gangetic dolphin was rescued by villagers following a two-hour-long operation in north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
This dolphin was spotted in the Saradha canal of Jaunpur district. A massive crowd of onlookers gathered around the canal to see the dolphin. They informed the forest department officials about the mammal being stuck in the canal.
Soon, a team of police and forest department arrived at the spot and started the rescue operation. But when they couldn't capture the dolphin even after several attempts, a special team of rescuers were summoned from Lucknow, the state capital. They used nets to catch that marine mammal. As the dolphin was being pulled out, people could be heard cheering the rescuers. District Official Shailendra Singh said: "A 16-member Special Team managed to catch the dolphin after a marathon operation. Now, we are planning to release this dolphin in the Ganges River.
Gangetic Dolphins are very rare of it's kind. This species has become almost extinct. Hence, the government is trying to preserve this species.
