A science teacher used tiny flasks and pots to mix calcium carbide with six different ingredients that resulted in underwater fireworks and a rocket in Gosford, Australia.

The teacher created the mini experiment on May 29, and was "focused on calcium carbide, which produces acetylene gas upon contact with water" to create some cool displays of science.

Demonstration 1 - Water is added to some Calcium Carbide in a 5ml conical flask. The acetylene gas produced comes out the stoppered glass tube and is ignited.
Demonstration 2 - A small balloon is inflated with acetylene gas and then ignited
Demonstration 3 - Acetylene gas and oxygen gas are bubbled into some liquid soap. The bubbles are then ignited.
Demonstration 4 - Some Calcium carbide and water are mixed in a small pot. When a flame is brought towards the gas coming out of a small hole in the pot the lid explodes off
Demonstration 5 - Some Calcium Carbide is added to some water in a plastic rocket. When the pressure builds up, the rocket shoots off and the gas is ignited.
Demonstration 6 - Underwater fireworks. Chlorine gas is produced in the conical flask and brought into contact with the acetylene gas in the measuring cylinder. The reaction produces fire and loud popping noises
