At least 80 people have died in a blast that ripped through a hotel in Kabul city of Afghanistan on Aug. 18.

The suicide bomb attack took place during a wedding ceremony, killing 63 people on Sunday.

Afghanistan's Interior Ministry said the revised toll stood at 80 on Wednesday. Ministry spokesperson Nusrat Rahimi said 17 civilians succumbed to injuries while over 160 are undergoing treatment.

Rahimi added 30 patients are critical.

The blast, claimed by the Islamic State, was so powerful that it blew the roof of the hotel.

Visual from the site showed the now deserted hotel in shreds.

Local reports have termed it the worst attack in Kabul since January 2018, where a Taliban car bomb attack killed 103 people.

Meanwhile, the attack led to the cancellation of Afghanistan's independence celebrations in many places across the city, that was scheduled to take place on Aug. 19.
