Serene scene during Buddhist ceremony for water goddess in Thailand
Footage shows Thai Buddhists floating colourful flower baskets in a lake tonight (November 11) to honour their water goddess.
Millions of people around Thailand and neighbouring countries took to lakes, rivers and beaches to released the candle-lit decorations for the Loi Krathong festival.
The annual celebration honouring the Buddhist goddess of water sees millions of people float 'Krathong' baskets to bring good luck for the year ahead.
Footage from Lumpini Park in the centre of Bangkok shows thousands of families taking part in the festival.
There were colourful designs available to float on the city's lake- including giant crocodiles and Barbie dolls.
Many tourists and westerners join in with the beautiful spectacle.
Loi Krathong is said to have started in the 12th century in the ancient Thai kingdom.
Meaning ''to float a basket," it follows the Buddhists belief of paying respect to water spirits.
Since the last century, it has been celebrated annually throughout the Kingdom of Thailand and neighbouring countries.
The festival takes place full moon in the evening with a full moon in the 12th month in the traditional Thai lunar calendar.
The exact date of Loi Krathong, also spelt Loy Krathong, changes every year.
