A one-month-old nilgai appeared lively when he was shown off to visitors at Songkla zoo, southern Thailand, last Friday (20/12) morning.

The baby, a form of bovidae, is the largest type of Asian antelope.

Zoo boss Chalermwut Kasetsombun said: "We're so happy to see the little baby nilgai. Visitors can come and appreciate the cuteness of him during the new year holidays. He is strong and healthy.''

Nilgai are recognisable from their deep necks with white fur on the throat and white spots on their faces.

There are an estimated 100,000 in India, and 30,000 in Texas. Their lifespan is around ten years.
