A large rockfall has occurred at one of the most recognisable coastal cliffs in Dorset on England's southwest coast.

The overhang at Burton Bradstock, near Hive Beach, collapsed on Thursday (March 5).

The collapse occurred after a period of heavy rain.

Video footage from Friday (March 6) shows beachgoers strolling beside the huge heap of rocks.

The Jurassic Coast Trust has strongly advised visitors not to walk anywhere near the the cliffs.

A cliff has given way as heavy rain batters the county of Dorset. A large rockfall has taken place at Burton Bradstock, near Hive Beach Café.

Before the fall, the cliff had a precarious overhang, but the rock toppled down onto the beach yesterday.

Beachgoers are being warned to care at the coast as the county continues to experience heavy rain which makes the cliffs more susceptible to collapse. The public is strongly advised not to walk anywhere near the rockfall or the cliffs. The next rockfall could happen at any time and bad weather has further increased the likelihood.


Advice is to:

Stay away from the edge of cliffs - admire the view from a safe distance
Never lie or sit under the cliffs - there is very little chance of survival if caught under a rockfall
Always take note of warning signs – they are there because the dangers are real
Check tide times before you set off- avoid being cut off by incoming tides
Be aware of mud flows
Keep dogs on leads near the cliff edge
