A jilted husband had to be rescued by firemen after setting fire to his own house after discovering his wife was cheating on him.

Atthasit Phetprasom, 26, flew into a rage on Wednesday (Aptil 8) after uncovering his wife's affair with a neighbour.

The heartbroken man allegedly poured lighter fluid around his kitchen then used a cigarette lighter to ignite the blaze in Ang Thong, central Thailand.

Concerened neighbors saw the fire and called the emergency services, who found Atthasit sobbing in the front yard.

He allegedly admitted that he started the fire because he had been stressed out about his domestic problems.

He told officers he was angry because his wife had found a new man. He said: "I know that my wife is seeing another man and I can't bear these feelings."

Atthasit's father, Lookint Phetprasom, 60, said: "I saw the fire from the kitchen, so I immediately called for help. Luckily, the firemen were able to take the gas tank out before it could explode."

Police Lieutenant Colonel Madusen Morsani from Sawaengha police station went to the house with the team, and said that Atthasit will be further tested for drugs and questioned at the police station.
