A food market is taking extra precautions against the coronavirus by covering the stalls with plastic sheets.

Vendors at the covered market in Chiang Mai, northern Thailand , have been ordered to use the see-through covers while shoppers have to wear face masks.

Footage from this morning (April 14) shows how the stallholders use a square hole in the plastic to collect money and serve the food.

Grilled chicken seller, Praiwan Sripa, 58, praised the measures. She said: "This is a good idea for the market as it protects sellers and buyers.

"Before this some customer came without wearing a face mask and sometimes it worried us.

"But after we started doing this we feel more safe and so do the customers.''

The customers also agreed to follow the market safety measures.

Speaking in the video, one of the customers said: "The market has shown their determination to create a safe market for the customers to buy food here without the risk of catching the virus."

Since recording began, Thailand has declared 2,613 Covid-19 coronavirus cases and 41 deaths. The country has enforced strict measures to combat the pandemic including the banning of passenger flights, curfews, travel bans and alcohol prohibition.
