A mesmerizing video captures several male grey hornbills perched on treetops and collecting fruits and preys while feeding them to female birds in Sri Lanka

The visual came out of Habarana city in the Anuradhapura District on May 7.

The video shows a Hornbill bird regurgitating food and presumably feeding it to the female bird housed inside a tree bark.

Another bird can be seen carrying a dead lizard in its beak and passing it through into its cavity nest inside the tree.

The grey Hornbills are common endemic resident breeders in Sri Lanka.

Owing to the breeding season, the female has to stay inside the hole for over two months while the male birds collect the food and bring it to the nest.

During this period, the female refrains from coming out and feeds the chicks with food bits the male bird brings.

Following this, when the chicks are big and mature enough, the female birds join the males in the hunt for food and preys.

They consume berries, fruits, insects and small lizards.

It feeds mostly on figs, although occasionally it eats small rodents, reptiles and insects.
