Leopards (Panthera pardus) are one of the world’s most beautiful big cats, with a powerful build and a coat decorated with rosettes. They are usually very hard to spot, but this pregnant female Leopard was easy to see as she perched uncomfortably in the fork of a spiny Knobthorn tree (Senegalia nigrescens), a common species of acacia found in southern Africa. It was a hot windy day, and the Leopard was clearly uncomfortable – she was salivating, frequently shifting position and calling, which is unusual, because Leopards are mostly silent. We stayed with her for over 15 minutes before returning to watch a male Leopard a few hundred metres away on a road in the southern region of Kruger National Park in South Africa.
