Blessed relief! Zebra scratches its itchy bits against a tree

The Plains Zebra (Equus quagga burchellii) is a common grazer in the southern African savanna. These three Zebras had just finished drinking from the nearby Duke waterhole and moved to a Knobthorn Tree (Acacia, now Senegalia nigrescens) to scratch. One Zebra took its time rubbing most of its body against the polished, well-worn tree trunk, obviously used as a scratching post by many animals before. One of its companions got impatient and forced its body between the tree and the scratching Zebra, ending its scratching session. Several nearby Impalas were calling.
