Adorable moment a safari elephant was spotted taking a mud bath in southern India's Karnataka.

The incident took place at Pansoli in Dandeli of Uttara Kannada district on June 15.

The video shows the pachyderm while chained in shackles use its trunk to pick up soggy mud from the ground and spray it on its back.

The video also shows the gentle giant using its foreleg to roll the mud into a mould and collects it with the help of the trunk.

According to the reports, the elephant takes part in the Wildlife Safari close to Dandeli wildlife sanctuary.

Sources suggest taking a mud bath helps the elephants with thermoregulation, which means maintaining the temperature of its body.

The mud is also used as a sunscreen by the animal, and it also helps in soothing insect bites.
