Racial tensions amongst land invaders in Cape Town

Backyard dwellers who have illegally invaded and occupied land in the poor township of Delft believe that people from the Eastern Cape should not be allowed to have or invade land in the Western Cape. The majority of the people in the Western Cape are Coloureds (mixed race), while the Eastern Cape has a majority of Xhosa speaking black Africans.

Ronald Manuel one of the leaders of the backyard dwellers who have invaded vacant land in Delft, alleges that people from "other" provinces South Africa migrate to the Western Cape and are receiving houses before native residents of the Western Cape.

Alfredo Peters, who has built an illegal informal structure on vacant land believes that people from the Eastern Cape should find land in that province if they want to occupy land.

Over the past few days, law enforcement agencies in Cape Town have been overwhelmed, as land invaders occupied vacant land all over the Cape Town Metro.
