This is the heart-stopping moment drivers jumped out of the way of an out-of-control lorry rolled back down a hill.

The container truck was carrying 25 tonnes of rice when the brakes failed in South Sulawesi, Indonesia on August 4.

Shocking footage shows how it damaged three cars after smashing into them while rolling backwards down the incline.

Terrified motorcycle riders jumped for their lives to get out of the way of the vehicle.

A witness said that as the truck did not have enough power to make it up the hill then it suddenly started reversing.

The said the driver opened the car door and jumped out.

Adjunct Police Commissioner Supriyanto, head of Sidrap Regional Police traffic unit said: "The incident occurred this afternoon involving three cars and one motorcycle."

The truck only stopped moving after bumping into a garden that was on the side of the road.

Supriyanto added: "Some people suffered injuries but fortunately there were no fatalities."

Three passengers were injured and had to be rushed to the hospital. The wrecked cars were immediately removed from the scene except for the truck because of the heavy load it was carrying.
