A rural community in eastern India's Odisha state have to ferry themselves across a river on a bamboo raft as authorities have failed to build a bridge.

Footage filmed near Bangriposi town shows around half a dozen people on a bamboo raft using a rope to pull themselves along, as well as their vehicles, across the body of water.

One resident explained the circumstances: "People ... risking their lives in such a dangerous situation because there is no bridge.

"Even after submitting several applications, the petitions have fallen on the deaf ears.

"Hundreds of people have been crossing the river for the past four years with the help of a bamboo raft."
