Dedicated teachers ride motorcycle through river to deliver school books in the Philippines
This is the inspiring moment teachers rode a motorbike through a treacherous river to deliver books to students as the start of the new term.
Ryan James Duenas and his fellow teachers braved heavy rain and storms as they worked together to send the learning materials to pupils in Saranggani, the Philippines on October 1.
Saranggani and many other parts of the Philippines have suffered floods during the rainy season. Schools in remote rural locations have little transport available.
However, Ryan said he was determined that all pupils would have the proper materials for the best start in life.
The teacher said: ''This fight is not only for our families, but a fight for the dreams, aspirations and hopes of the learners, the community, and the country.''
The Department of Education (DepEd) has offered different options for teachers to use during the pandemic such as online distance learning, modular distance learning, Radio-based learning or blended learning, among others.
Officers reported that more than three million students have registered in private and public schools in Central Luzon for the new school year.
