Footage shows a flooded residential area in Paknaan, Mandaue City, Philippines on October 4 where residents are seen salvaging their belongings from the 3-foot-deep water.

A local said their area is hit by massive flooding every year so they are asking the local government to build barriers around the Butuanon river.

He said: "Our properties are damaged because of the flash floods every year. A structure around the river would help us, I hope it will be built soon."

Officials said around 500 homes were flooded. The displaced residents also complained of the foul smell of the water that came from the river.

In other villages, the flood level reached up to five foot so families were evacuated to nearby schools.
