Struggling family have to scoop rainwater from their home after 'heartless landlord removed roof'
This is the heartbreaking moment a struggling family had to scoop our rainwater from their home after a cruel landlord demolished their roof for not paying rent.
The young lads are seen in the video helping their father clear the rainwater from a tropical storm off their floor in Cavite, the Philippines on October 7.
Frederick Faller said he argued with the owner of the house after he was not able to pay rent for several months because he had lost his job during the coronavirus pandemic.
He used to work as an airport taxi driver taking tourists to their hotels in the capital Manila, but their company closed because of the travel ban on international holidaymakers.
On October 4, the owner Cherry Bolanos allegedly hired construction workers to demolish the roof of the house to force them out.
However, the father said they still had to pay eight months worth of unpaid rent on top of the 13,000 pesos electricity bill before they could leave so they had no choice but to stay on the exposed house.
Shockingly, during the storm last week, the family was left soaking wet while struggling to keep their valuables dry under the rain.
Frederick said: ''I don’t think we can afford to pay them now because I am still out of job. We have barely enough money for food. There's no support. I can't just make money magically appear.''
The father added that they are selling scrap materials in junk shops for income, but it is still not enough to cover for the rent and what they owe.
His sons also help to scavenge the junk despite the quarantine, but the family only totals 200 pesos a day at most from selling them.
Local officials have mediated between the father and the landlord coming to an agreement that the family needs to leave the property within three months.
The landlord Cherry said: ''I hope they will understand us, we have to feed our family too. We have medical bills to pay because my family member tested positive for Covid-19.''
Frederick is now appealing for help finding a new job so he can rent a new house for his family.
