This is the heart-stopping moment a truck driver slammed on the brakes to avoid hitting an old man crossing the road.

Motorist Tran Ba Tin was delivering goods when he skidded to avoid the pensioner ambling across the road in Nam Dinh Bridge, Vietnam.

Dashcam footage shows how the truck in front skidded and swerved to avoid knocking over the pedestrian.

However, the vehicle was still concealing the old man and Tran only saw him with seconds to spare.

Luckily, the quick-thinking driver was able to hit the brakes on time - coming within a few yards of running the man over.

Tran said: "I could have seriously injured the old man. I'm relieved that I was able to press the brakes in time.''
