A shelter in northern India's Haryana is home to thousands of cows left abandoned.

Footage from November 10 shows the staff at the shelter in Sukteri feeding the large numbers of cows which are considered as sacred symbols to Hindus.

The sheltering of old, unproductive cows in traditional shelters is an ancient practice in Inda and their slaughter is illegal in most states.

These shelters are funded by the public, businesses, including corporate philanthropy, charitable societies, temple trusts, and the government.
