10,000 cows were set free on roads and government building premises in the India's State of Gujurat to protest the lack of government aid.

Charitable trusts and government-registered organisations that run cattle shelters decided to let hundreds of cows loose after the government promised them to issue economic aid following a lumpy skin disease outbreak that led to the death of many animals. More than 5,800 cattle deaths have been recorded so far.

The video shows cows in the middle of the road, on national highways, and roaming around government premises.

The protests, which mainly took place in the cities of Banaskantha and Patan, caused severe traffic disruptions.

Protesters said that they will boycott the upcoming election in the state of Gujurat if funds are not released.
