A hero pet cat saved its pensioner owner from a venomous 10ft-long king cobra that raided a house in Thailand.

Retired teacher Kanda Chunuan, 68, was taking a nap in the living room with the feline when the reptile entered their home in Nakhon Si Thammarat province.

She was startled when the moggie, Seeda, suddenly jumped off her lap and screeched at something under the sofa.

When she leaned closer to look, she found an aggressive cobra hissing underneath and ready to attack.

However, the snake did not make a move because the cat stood its ground and continued to threaten the wild intruder, which retaliated by spitting venom.

The frightened woman immediately called the rescuers for help after rushing outside the house with her pet.

Kanda said: "I heard my pet cat hissing at something under the furniture nearby. I was shocked when I saw Seeda facing a snake. Luckily it was not harmed by the venom."

The team struggled to capture the aggressive serpent that had hidden under the furniture, but they were able to corner it after almost half an hour.
They used a catching rod to secure its head before grabbing it while terrified residents watched on.

The woman thanked the rescuers before they placed the wild animal into a sack for release later.

King cobras are a type of cobra that can kill humans within a few hours with a single bite. They cause thousands of deaths each year across Southeast Asia and the Indian subcontinent.
