This is the amusing moment a man paddled through floodwaters while ferrying a case of beer on a basin during Typhoon Vamco in the Philippines.

The optimistic man was one of the residents affected by the neck-deep deluge brought by the typhoon in Pasig City in Manila on November 12.

Onlooker Anthony Tony said his neighbour braved the flood and went to the store on the other side of the street when the heavy rains had passed.

The man then bought a case of beer along with other food items not recorded on video to enjoy on the second floor of their house while they waited for the water to recede.

Anthony aid: "It was a way to relieve our stress and forget our problems and now there is no room to be sad. We have lost material things but having survived this terrifying flood is a reason enough for us to celebrate."

The floodwater has subsided in Manila but rescue teams are still battling to reach stranded residents further north in Cagayan province, which suffered severe floods.

As of Monday, typhoon Vamco - or Ulysses as it is known locally - had killed at least 63 people in the Philippines with dozens more missing.

The storm has now moved eastwards and hit central Vietnam, where it made landfall on Sunday.
