A resident was seen carrying beer bottles through neck-deep floodwaters in the Philippines as Typhoon Wipha battered the region.

Romualdo's store was submerged in 5ft (2m) floodwater but he decided to salvage what he could, starting with the liquor.

Footage shows the local allowing himself to be carried by the current, raising two one-litre bottles high above the water.

He called out to his friends while gliding along the flooded street, as two trucks stood stranded in the background in Manila, the Philippines on July 22.

He said: ‘All of our fridges were toppled over when the water became too deep. I thought I should save everything I can.'

As the water became deeper, the resident began doing a breaststroke while still holding the bottles above the surface.

A nearby truck driver then jumped into the water and joined him for a swim, and together they made their way to the end of the street.

The amusing scene came amid the carnage from Typhoon Wipha, which triggered floods across Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines. Hong Kong were also battered by the storm.

In the Philippines, at least seven people were killed and more than 60,000 displaced.
