Activists place 500 pairs of shoes outside Jakarta government building in response to delayed Sexual Violence Bill
Activists have placed 500 pairs of shoes outside The People's Representative Council building in Jakarta in response to the continued delay in the Sexual Violence Bill.
Footage from November 25 shows the demonstration with 500 pairs of shoes, which represent the same number of people who voiced their support for the bill, as well as the delay in becoming law.
The Sexual Violence Bill would stop the criminalisation of victims and forbid police blaming or degrading victims.
Additionally, it would stop police forcing victims to search for evidence relating to their own cases of sexual violence.
The bill was introduced to the Indonesian parliament four years ago and has been continually delayed.
It has prompted outcry after the National Legislation Program rescheduled its priority for next year.
