Thai locals have boxing match on bamboo poles over river
Locals held a unique boxing match and a blindfolded boat racing competition during a festival in Thailand.
Participants in life vests and gloves straddled a bamboo pole over a river while throwing punches at each other in Chainat province on November 10. The event is known as 'sea boxing', or Muay Talay, in the local language.
Afterwards, a boat racing competition was held. Two boatmen in blindfolds paddled away to reach the finish line first.
The rower was blindfolded while a teammate instructed their partner where to go.
The event was organised by a Buddhist temple to help boost tourism and the local economy after the pandemic affected people's income.
Monk Phra Wattana, one of the organisers, said: “The boxing was fun as I could see the determination from the participants.''
