A social health activist managed to rescue a one-day-old infant left in the bushes to die in central India’s Madhya Pradesh on December 2. The incident took place in Sagar’s Bahrol village in Khurai.

The Accredited Social Health Activist (ASHA) Kirti Jain heard the cries of a baby from a bush and immediately rushed for help. She spotted a newborn baby wrapped up in a shawl thrown in the bushes to die. Realizing that the baby was still alive, she along with her husband, rushed the baby to the hospital on her own.

The baby’s treatment has begun under the supervision of Block Medical Officer (BMO) Dr. Arif Qureshi. He stated that the baby caught a cold due to being left out in the severe winter. The information has also been given to the local police who are investigating the matter.
