Rescue teams were today clearing damage from severe floods which killed seven people in southern Thailand.

Heavy rain battered the region close to the border with Malaysia between December 1 and December 4, causing severe flash floods.

Four people were killed in the worst-hit province of Nakhon Si Thammarat while others died in neighbouring areas.

A 14-month-old toddler was washed away in the raging torrents and rushed to an intensive care unit where they are fighting for their life.

Officials from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) said rebuilding work would be carried out in the coming days.

More than 500,000 people across hundreds of towns and villages have been affected by the floods.
