Thousands of factory workers rioted over allegedly unpaid wages at an iPhone factory in Karnataka, India on December 12.

An estimated 2,000 workers reportedly smashed glass windows and set cars on fire at the Taiwanese-owned factory of Wistron Infocomm in Kolar city. The factory is used for the assembly, processing and distribution of the popular iPhone SE devices and the work is carried out by third-party companies.

The violence was triggered amid claims of unpaid wages, according to local media reports. More than a hundred workers have been arrested so far.

One of those who was at the unrest claimed that "salaries have not been paid for more than four months."

He added: "People are working 12 hour days and they haven't been paid. That is why they are so angry."
