A couple of wild elephants were spotted struggling to cross a busy road in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka as vehicles failed to stop for the animals.

Footage filmed on January 4 shows the animals lingering on the side of the road waiting for a gap in the traffic to open.

One elephant became agitated by the vehicles and charged after a motorcyclist for a few metres.

The road passes through the Minneriya National Park located in Rambawilla, known for the elephants in the region.

A jumbo stationed on the sidelines disappears into the bushes soon after the traffic on the road increases. Later, another elephant appears on the sidelines wanting to cross over to the other side of the road. Agitated by the stubborn traffic, the jumbo chases after a two-wheeler for a distance before giving up upon seeing a bus approaching.

After lingering on the sidelines for a while, the elephants somehow manage to cross the busy street as some drivers halt their vehicles at a safe distance to let the jumbos calmly cross over.
