Eleven miners trapped in a gold mine in eastern China for more than two weeks have been rescued, according to Chinese state media.

Teams have been working to free 22 miners in total who were trapped underground in the city of Qixiain in Shandong Province when an explosion blocked their exit on January 10.

The first miner was freed on Sunday morning at about 11:13 a.m. local time, according to the Xinhua news agency.

He was described as in "an extremely weak condition."

This footage, filmed on January 21, shows firemen attaching supplies including water, sausages, quail eggs, disinfectant, face masks, socks and timer to a rope before lowering them down into a passage drilled for that purpose.
