Dozens of homes were damaged after a summer storm hit northeast Thailand on Sunday (March 21).

Strong wind and rain caused by high pressure from China, Vietnam and Laos battered homes in Nakhon Ratchasima in the early hours of the morning.

Strong gusts lasting more than an hour ripped roofs from homes and uprooted trees and blew over electrical posts.

Residents suffered power cuts before officials arrived the next morning to fix the damager. They examined the destruction and evaluated it for the government’s aid subsidies for the affected households.

The Thai Meteorological Department today issued storm warnings for 48 provinces following wind and heavy rain across the north on Sunday. Forecasters warned thunderstorms with gusty wind and hail across northern Thailand.

They said that the summer storms were due to a high-pressure system moving in from China across Vietnam and Laos.
