Three elephants at the Boon Lott's Elephant sanctuary (BLES) have been dubbed the 'gossip girls' by founder Katherine Connor and staff. Wassana, Beautiful Lotus and Pang Dow have been given this name because they spend all their time together and can be heard regularly calling and squeaking to each other, particularly if there is a bull elephant nearby. The three elephants have formed a very close friendship, choosing to eat, sleep, and play together.
Boon Lott's Elephant Sanctuary (BLES) is a sanctuary in Thailand supported by World Animal Protection that rescues elephants that have been used in the entertainment industry. 47 year old Wassana (meaning fortune), was used to carry tourists at a riding time despite the agony of a foot injury after standing on a landmine, she now wears a special sock to protect her foot. Pang Dow had a broken ankle, which she had been forced to walk on - it is now disfigured and she walks with a limp.
