Doctor-mother’s suffering drives engineering student to design ‘air cooler’ for PPE kits
The plight of his doctor-mother inside a PPE kit, carrying out her everyday responsibilities towards COVID patients, has prompted a Mumbai engineering student to design a small device that pumps air into a compact ventilation system, offering relief from heat and sweatiness.
Nihaal Singh Adarsh, a 19-year-old Engineering Student from Mumbai has developed a compact ventilation system for PPE kits. He named it Cov-Tech Ventilation System which comes with a lithium-ion battery that lasts for 6 to 8 hours. Cov-Tech Ventilation System is like sitting under the fan even while we are inside the PPE suit. It takes the surrounding air, filters it, and pushes it into the PPE suit. The design of the ventilation system ensures a complete air seal from the PPE kit. It provides a breeze of fresh air to the user in a gap of just 100 seconds. Normally, due to lack of ventilation, it is hot and humid within the PPE suit, this solution offers a way out of this uncomfortable experience, by creating a steady airflow inside.
The device truly stands out from the rest and makes the medical workers' life easier. It is an innovation, designed specifically by combining technology with science to bring comfort to the people working during the Covid-19 pandemic. The ‘Cov-Tech Ventilation System’ tackles these issues by ensuring a compact, portable and user-friendly device to provide a ventilation system for PPE suits.
